Sometimes I find myself extremely frustrated in my daily day to day activities, as I must deal with customers on a regular basis at my business. Besides the often misunderstandings, sometimes I find that some people tend to question my professionalism. There are times when I cannot wear my hearing aids, which makes for even more difficulties. Some devices like the ultrasonic bath cleaner are extremely irritating as it squeals at a high pitch tone, transmitting horrible noise to my hearing aids.
Do you get frustrated over not hearing? How do you deal with it?
Do you sometimes feel anger inside when your around a group of people and only hear half of what they are saying or is it all just too much noise to focus on?
I myself find myself going through mood swings because of my frustrations, and sometimes feel that it tends to bring out aggressions.

I must say, I never join forums, but after being hearing impaired for quite some time now, I figured it would be better to talk to people who can actually empathize what I'm going through.  I couldn't agree more that my day-to-day activities become very frustrating and not to mention my mood becomes very angry and depressed.  It's hard to hear on the phone when dealing with clients and since I'm pretty young for having hearing loss, I feel like it's hard to meet people also.  I can't wear my hearing aids when using the phone because it just makes hearing harder for some reason.  Hearing conversations in the car is also extremely difficult as the sounds from the car, cars driving by are all background noise that interferes with my being able to hear the conversation.

I'm trying to find information on phone amplifiers, and am seriously considering implants, but want to know if someone has had that type of surgery done and if it's really worth it.

By the end of the day, I try to always look at the positive side of things.... my hearing loss is caused by my kidney condition that I have, and since I was 10 years old I had been on medications that were ototoxic to the ear. So I guess things could be worse, but really, I'm trying to find things that can make my life better!

I understand your frustration completely. I am totally deaf in my right ear except for chronic tinnitus. And my left ear has chronic middle ear effusion(glue-ear)  which can only be treated with a keratotomy-which is always temporary. My hearing is always muffled so aids only amplify the distortion.
My ENT doctor is checking into whether I might be a canditate for the BAHA. It's a device which transmits sound through the scull cavity.
Good luck, Neil

I have moderate to severe hearing loss in both ears, ever since i was born. Now I'm 21 years old and still coping, obviously. The hardest part is always trying to handle things on the phone, and some people are not sensitive to repeating themselves, but they don't realize that's the only way i can help them!

So I'm seriously looking into getting the Cochlear implants.  If there is anyone who has had this procedure done, please, any feedback, input on the implants would be helpful.  Thanks  Smiley

I myself had thought of the same, but my doctor said I was not a candidate for the insurance to pay off the procedure. Hearing loss level was too high  Grin
